What students practise

First, a short lesson in tables: ce chien, cette voiture, cet avion, ces chiens, with the -ci and -là nuance. Then c’est, the contraction of cela est used to point at something, and s’est, always part of a pronominal verb in the passé composé, followed by a past participle: il s’est promené.

Exercise one asks students to place the right demonstrative before twelve nouns, from chat to œil. Exercise two mixes everything in eight real sentences, including c’est and s’est, exactly where learners need the most practice.

2 ✍️ Place

📚 The rules at a glance

Everything the worksheet teaches, in eight short rules:

🐶 ce · masculine: ce chien
🚗 cette · feminine: cette voiture
✈️ cet · masculine before a vowel: cet avion
🐕 ces · plural: ces chiens
📍 -ci / -là · near / far: ce chien-ci, ce chien-là
🔤 A, E, I, O, U, Y · the vowels that call for cet
👉 c’est · cela est: c’est mon frère
🔄 s’est · pronominal verb: il s’est promené
💡 Tip: the classic trick is to replace c’est with cela est (it works) and s’est with se + verb in infinitive (il s’est promené → il se promener, so yes, pronominal!).

🎯 Recommended level

Best fit: A1 for the demonstratives, A2 once c’est and s’est come in. The traps are the good part: cet ami, cet œil, ces gens, and the pronominal verbs in exercise two. A perfect companion to your lessons on gender and agreement.
