My Favorite Pokémon: A French Opinion Writing Activity ⚡
In this activity, the teacher shows his favorite Pokémon: Florizarre, Noadkoko, Alakazam, Nidoking, Artikodin and Ronflex. Each one comes with a small text: why he loves it, what it looks like, what it can do. The students read, and they discover the language of opinion, you know, the « je pense que », the « à mon avis », the « parce que ».
After, it is their turn. With the help page (opinion phrases and a big bank of adjectives) and the chart of 151 Pokémon, they fill two Pokédex pages: Mes Pokémon préférés ! and Les Pokémon que j’aime moins. A fun way to work on reading, writing and speaking, with a topic the students already love. I made this activity for a Saturday class, and honestly, it worked very well.

✨ What students practise
First, the reading: six short portraits, with clear reasons. Florizarre is loyal and brave, Noadkoko is funny and a bit strange, Alakazam is very intelligent, Nidoking is strong, Artikodin is majestic, and Ronflex is just lazy and gluttonous — he eats 400 kilos of food a day! The students see how the teacher gives his opinion, and they learn the adjectives almost without noticing.
Then the help page: the classic opinion phrases (à mon avis, selon moi, d’après moi…) and more than 40 adjectives, with the opposites. And after, the students complete the two templates: the Pokémon they love, and the Pokémon they like less. They can draw, write, or use the sprite chart for inspiration. In short, a complete session of reading, writing and speaking, on a topic that makes everybody talk.
