Crée ton Pokémon: A French Creative Writing Activity ⚡
Today, the students do not read a Pokémon: they invent one. Name, size, weight, habitat, evolution, type — they fill the whole identity card of their creature, they draw it, and then they describe it in French: its appearance, its character, its strengths and its goals.
A creative activity that makes them write without noticing, because everybody wants to present their own monster. Two versions: the complete card with types, talent, attacks and weaknesses (version 2), and the simple card with the drawing frame and the description (version 1). Version 1 with watermark is free; the clean files are for Premium members.
✨ What students practise
First, the vocabulary of description: l’apparence, le caractère, les forces, les objectifs. The card gives the frame, and the students bring the ideas. They choose a type among the 18 (feu, eau, plante, psy, dragon…), a talent, four attacks and a few weaknesses — because a Pokémon without weaknesses, well, that is too easy.
Then the writing: a short paragraph to describe the creature, with adjectives and simple sentences. And finally, the speaking: each student presents his or her Pokémon to the class. In short, one page that works the vocabulary, the writing and the oral, with a lot of fun.
Choose the name, the habitat and the type of your creature.
Draw your Pokémon in the big frame of the card.
Write the description: appearance, character, strengths, goals.
Present your Pokémon to the class, and vote for the best one.
💎 The version 2: the complete card (Premium)
The rich version of the activity: the identity card with the 18 types to tick, the evolution, the talent, the four attacks and the weaknesses. A bigger frame for the imagination, and more vocabulary to use in the description.
