French Shopping List: Read the Message, Find the Food 🥖
Somebody left you a note: « Est-ce que tu peux acheter du lait, des œufs et du chocolat ? » Six foods to buy, twenty pictures on the page — and not all of them are on the list. The child reads the message, circles the right foods (the baguette, the croissant, the pain aux raisins…), and lets the pizza and the sushi stay on the shelf.
The full version adds a second page: ten little riddles (« Ce légume orange pousse dans la terre ») with a word bank, then a writing task — your own shopping list with five foods — and the answer key. A complete A1 session around the food vocabulary, with the articles (du, la, les, l’, une) working quietly in the background. The short version is free for everybody; the full worksheet and the DOCX files are for Premium members.
✨ What students practise
First, the reading: a short, real-life message with a polite request (« J’aimerais bien aussi que tu passes à la boulangerie… »). The child has to find the six foods in the text — du lait, des œufs, du chocolat, une baguette, un croissant, un pain aux raisins — and circle them among twenty pictures, some of them traps. Reading for specific information, with a pencil in the hand.
Then the writing: the names of the foods on a separate sheet, and on page 2 the ten riddles with the word bank, where the article is already given (la carotte, du lait, les frites…) — a quiet grammar lesson inside a game. And finally, the child writes his or her own shopping list with five foods. In short, one worksheet that reads, circles, solves and writes.
Read the message and underline the six foods to buy.
Find them among the twenty pictures — and leave the traps alone.
Write the name of each food on a separate sheet.

🛒 The message, and the six foods
Six foods to circle: du lait, des œufs, du chocolat, une baguette, un croissant, un pain aux raisins. And on the page, a few delicious traps: the pizza, the sushi, the fries, the bananas, the donuts… The child learns to read what is written, not what is tempting.
🧠 The ten riddles of page 2
« Qu’est-ce que j’achète ? » — ten clues, one word bank, and the article already given in each sentence. The answers, for the teacher or the parent:
