🔎 Read for facts and understand how the text works

Find information in the text

Identify the two camels in the illustrations, explain the role of the hump and name two adaptations that protect against sand. Learners return to the relevant paragraph to support their answers.

Recognise nonfiction structure

Identify the type of text, count its numbered paragraphs, suggest a heading for the last paragraph and find the paragraph that matches a given heading.

Build reading vocabulary

The glossary explains herbivore, coussinet and callosité in French. Use these definitions to help learners understand the passage without translating every word.

Compare and explain

The Bactrian camel and dromedary provide a clear comparison task. The questions then move from recognising information to explaining a reserve’s purpose and identifying adaptations.

💡 Use it in a French reading lesson

Start with the title and illustrations: ask learners what they already know about camels. Read the numbered paragraphs in sections, then let learners complete the questions and locate the information they used.

During correction, compare possible headings for the final paragraph and discuss why they fit. As an optional oral extension, ask learners to describe one difference between the two animals in a short French sentence.

Level: B1 for independent reading, or A2 with teacher support. The scientific vocabulary and longer explanatory sentences may need preparation. The worksheet itself is in French; this presentation is in English.
