Numbers and Time Worksheet: Write the Numbers, Tell the Time ⏰

This printable worksheet helps beginner English learners practise two essential skills at once: writing numbers in words, from zero to twenty, and telling the time in English. Students first spell the numbers, then turn digital times into full sentences — It is eight twenty AM, It is three oh nine PM.

The new v2 version is clearer and airier, and a free watermarked PDF lets you try it in class before going Premium: the clean A4 and US Letter PDFs, plus the editable DOCX files, are reserved for members.

🧠 Before starting: a quick oral warm-up

Before writing, ask the students to say a few numbers and times out loud. It wakes up the spelling and the pronunciation, and the writing goes much faster after:

  • How do you spell 7 in English?
  • Which number is twelve?
  • How do you say 8:20 in English?
  • What does AM mean? And PM?
  • What time is it? — ask your neighbour!

📋 What’s inside the worksheet

Two clear parts on one page: first the numbers, then the times. Nothing else, so the child stays focused.

🔢 Numbers 0 to 20

Students write each number in English words, from zero to twenty, with the tricky spellings in the middle: twelve, thirteen, fifteen…

⏰ Telling time

Digital times become full sentences: 8:20 turns into « It is eight twenty AM », 15:09 into « It is three oh nine PM ».

🌗 AM and PM

Morning, afternoon, evening: the students learn which side of the day each time belongs to, while writing.

💬 The words and structures practised

A compact summary for the teacher’s lesson plan:

🔢 0-10 · zero, one, two, three… ten
🔢 11-20 · eleven, twelve, thirteen… twenty
⏰ It is eight twenty AM · the time sentence
🌗 AM / PM · morning vs afternoon and evening
✍️ tricky spellings · twelve, thirteen, fifteen, eighteen, twenty
🗣️ What time is it? · the speaking extension

🎯 Learning goals, step by step

1 ✍️ Write

2 👀 Read

Read each digital time and say it out loud first.

3 🌗 Sort

Choose AM or PM: morning, afternoon or evening?

4 🗣️ Speak

Ask and answer « What time is it? » in pairs.

💡 Teacher tips: start with the oral warm-up, then insist on the tricky spellings (twelve without the « u », thirteen vs thirty), and finish with short dialogues in pairs — one student asks the time, the other answers with a full sentence. The worksheet is mainly written, but it becomes a speaking lesson in two minutes.
👥 Who is it for? English beginners and A1 learners, elementary students, ESL / EFL classes, and parents who homeschool. The DOCX versions let you change the numbers, the times or the instructions to fit your group.
