Fingers of the Hand Worksheet – Printable English PDF for Kids

Body vocabulary – Pre-K to Grade 1

The Fingers of the Hand Worksheet

This printable English worksheet helps young learners discover the names of the five fingers. Children look at the hand, say each finger out loud, trace the dotted outline and write how many fingers there are on one hand.

The activity is provided in two paper formats, A4 and US Letter (8.5 x 11), so it prints correctly at home or at school anywhere in the world.

What students practise

Students follow three short instructions in English: look carefully at the picture of the hand, say the names of the different fingers, then write the number of fingers in the box. Along the way they learn the five finger names: the thumb, the index finger, the middle finger, the ring finger and the little finger, also called the pinkie.

The visual layout makes the worksheet useful for first English lessons, morning work, literacy centres, homeschool or a quick independent task, and tracing the dotted hand supports pencil control and fine motor skills.

1 Look

Look carefully at the picture of this hand and find each labelled finger.

2 Say

Say the five names out loud: thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger, pinkie.

3 Trace

Trace the dotted outline of the hand to practise pencil control.

4 Count

Write the number in the box: On one hand, there are __ fingers.

Memory hooks and extension: the middle finger sits in the middle, the ring finger is where a ring goes, and the pinkie is the smallest. Fast finishers can decorate their traced hand with a ring, a bracelet, a watch or funny tattoos, then trace their own hand on plain paper and label it again.
