French Synonyms Vocabulary Worksheet
This French vocabulary worksheet is about synonyms: words that mean almost the same thing.
Students match words, choose the right synonym in short sentences, and spot the word that does not belong. It is a simple way to help them use more varied French words when they read or write.
What the worksheet contains
The worksheet starts with matching pairs of synonyms. Then students choose the best synonym in a sentence and finish with an odd-one-out activity.
They practise useful words such as paresseux, bizarre, difficile, faux, cher, chaleureux, immense, epuise, brillant and succulent.
Recommended level
This worksheet works well once students already know some common French adjectives. It helps them move from "I know the word" to "I can choose a better word".
Why synonyms matter
Synonyms are useful because they make French feel less repetitive. Students learn that two words can be close in meaning, but not always used in exactly the same way.
