🎯 A simple task with plenty of vocabulary

1 👀 Observe

Look at the 37 pictures and identify familiar activities.

2 📖 Read

Read the activity lists on both sides of the page.

3 🔢 Match

Write each picture number beside the matching expression.

4 ✅ Check

🎸 Sports, music, creativity and everyday interests

⚽ Sports and movement

Play basketball, play football, play tennis, swim, ski, ice-skate, rollerblade, skateboard, dance and more.

🎵 Music and performance

Play the drums, flute, guitar, piano or violin; sing, act and listen to music.

🖌️ Creative and everyday activities

Draw, paint, do pottery, make models, cook, garden, read, do crosswords and take photos.

Useful expressions: the new page includes alternatives such as cycle / ride a bike, ride (a horse) and take photos (UK) / take pictures (US). Learners see the complete expressions rather than isolated nouns.

💬 Turn the matching task into speaking practice

The printed task is vocabulary matching. After completing it, you can reuse the pictures for short conversations about interests and preferences.

What do you like doing in your free time?
I like playing the guitar.
I enjoy drawing, but I don’t like skiing.

These are suggested classroom extensions, rather than additional exercises printed on the worksheet. Ask pairs to find three activities they both enjoy, or let one learner mime an activity while the others guess.

Language follow-up: notice play football and play the piano. Then practise changing the base verb into an -ing form after like or enjoy.
