The Solar System: Trace the Dotted Lines 🪐
Nine names, nine worlds, and one big yellow Sun. In this worksheet, the little ones trace the dotted names of the planets, from MERCURY to NEPTUNE, with a beautiful watercolor picture for each. A simple activity, but a complete one: the children trace, they say the names out loud, and they discover the solar system in English.
The watermarked PDF is free for everybody, in A4 and US Letter. The clean PDFs are for Premium members, ready to print for the whole class. And after the tracing, well, there is a lot more to do: color the planets, put them in order, count them. A nice little trip to space, without leaving the classroom.
✨ What the little ones practise
First, the eyes: each planet has its own watercolor picture, so the children can point and say the name before writing. The Sun is yellow and huge, Mars is red, Neptune is a deep blue. The pictures do the work of a dictionary, without a single translation.
Then, the hand: the dotted lines are in uppercase, big and clear, perfect for the first gestures of writing, from left to right. And in short, a complete pre-writing session: pencil control, letter recognition, and the first English words of the sky.
Point at each planet and say its name out loud.
Follow the dotted lines, from left to right, like a little journey.
Say the name while tracing: SUN, MARS, EARTH…
Color the planets, put them in order, count them.
