Trace & Color: The Chick Hatching from Its Egg – Free Printable Worksheet ✏️

Two tasks on one page: the child traces the dotted outline of a chick hatching from its egg, then colors the picture. The tracing part works the pencil control and the line direction; the coloring part works precision inside the lines.

✨ What the little ones practise

First, the tracing: the dotted outline of the chick and the cracked eggshell gives curved and broken lines to follow, without lifting the pencil. Then, the coloring: the same picture, filled in inside the lines just drawn.

Two tasks, one page, one clear order: trace first, color after. The coloring also serves as a check — if the colors stay inside the lines, the tracing did its job.

1 👀 Look

Observe the picture: the chick, the egg, the cracked shell, and the dotted lines.

2 🖐️ Finger

Trace the dotted outline with the finger first, without any pencil.

3 ✏️ Pencil

Trace the dotted lines with the pencil, one line at a time.

4 🎨 Color

Color the chick and the egg inside the lines.

🐣 What’s inside the worksheet

✏️ The tracing task

The dotted outline of the chick hatching from its egg, to trace with the pencil.

🎨 The coloring task

The same picture to color once the tracing is done, on the same page.

💡 Teacher tip: start with the finger or a cotton swab for the tracing part; move to the pencil when the line follows the dots. Laminated, the page can be traced again with a whiteboard marker — the coloring is then done on a paper copy.
