✨ What the students practise

Reading instructions in French is a skill of its own: each sentence starts with a verb in the imperative (pars, passe, récupère, rejoins, débarque), and each verb moves the reader one step further on the map. The student must understand the order, the places and the colors, then show the result with a red line and a cross.

1 📖 Read

Read the five numbered clues, one by one, in order.

2 🔍 Locate

Find each place on the map: the islands, the rock, the beach, the mountains.

3 ✏️ Trace

Draw the route in red, from Dead Island to the Great Island.

4 ❌ Mark

Put a cross where the treasure is buried: at the foot of the blue mountain.

📜 The five clues, in French and in English

The full route, clue by clue, with the translation for the teacher or for self-study:

1Pars de l’île Morte.Start from Dead Island.
2Passe entre l’île du Crabe et le Petit Rocher.Pass between Crab Island and Little Rock.
3Sur l’île de la Tortue, récupère la clé du coffre. On Turtle Island, get the chest key.
4Rejoins la Grande Île et débarque sur la plage.Reach the Great Island, land on the beach.
5Le trésor est enterré au pied de la montagne bleue. The treasure lies at the foot of the blue mountain.
★Trace ton chemin en rouge et marque le trésor d’une croix.Trace your route in red, mark the treasure with a cross.
💡 Teaching tip: after the tracing, ask each student to retell the route aloud in French: « Je pars de l’île Morte, ensuite je passe entre… » The same five verbs, now in the first person: the reading becomes a speaking activity.

🗺️ The map: nine places to know

Every name on the map is a French word the student meets while searching for the route:

🦀 Île du Crabe · Crab Island
💀 Île Morte · Dead Island, the start
🪨 Petit Rocher · Little Rock
🐢 Île de la Tortue · Turtle Island, the key
🏝️ Grande Île aux Couleurs · the Great Island
🏖️ La plage · the beach, where you land
⛰️ Montagne bleue · the blue mountain, the treasure!
Montagnes rouge et jaune · the decoys
🧭 La rose des vents · compass rose: N, S, E, O
🔑 The answer, in one sentence: the route goes from Dead Island, between Crab Island and Little Rock, through Turtle Island (the key), to the beach of the Great Island, and the cross goes at the foot of the blue mountain, not the red one, not the yellow one.
